COVID 19 (coronavirus) update - West Yorkshire

Adoption information events

Despite the current circumstances, we do still need to recruit adopters for children in care across our region. While the assessment and approval process will need to be done in a different way, we are still very keen to hear from people who are interested in adopting a child.

All of our information event are being held virtually via Zoom. Places are limited, so please visit our information events page to book your place.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Adoption support

In these unprecedented and uncertain times, we understand that being an adoptive family will bring its own unique challenges.

Social distancing means we are unable to provide our usual support in person, either at support groups, stay and play or on a one-to-one basis. However, we want to reassure you that we are here for you - either on the phone or through web conferencing apps, and if you are struggling or just need to chat, please contact your social worker or our duty line, which is still operational, on 0113 378 3535 (10 – 4 Monday to Thursday and 10 – 3.30 on Friday)

Many of you will now find yourselves having to juggle working from home with home-schooling your children, trying to establish new routines whilst looking after a child who is already unsettled and finding the changes tough. So we have pulled together a collection of resources which may be of use to help get through this challenging time. This can be found on the member's area of our website - in the Guides and Handbooks section. You will need to be signed into your account to see this. The West Yorkshire education advice line is also still operating, so if you have any questions about education or schooling at this time, please feel free to call. (The contact details are again in the member’s area of the website in the Education Support section).

Letterbox

For those families who have a letterbox agreement, the Letterbox Service continues to operate, however there will be some delays in processing exchanges.

In order to improve the speed of letter exchanges between adopters and birth family members we encourage the use of email.  If you are expecting a letter please get in touch with your Letterbox Team to provide them with your email address.

This can be done using the following email addresses:

Letterbox@oneadoptionwy.leeds.gov.uk

We cannot guarantee exchanges of hard copy letters at this time.
