Members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community are being invited to find out about adopting a child through One Adoption.

The One Adoption regional agencies have joined forces to remind everyone that being Lesbian, Gay, Bi or Trans is not a barrier to adopting a child.

One Adoption welcomes applications from members of the LGBT+ community and has already helped many same-sex couples or single LGBT people to adopt children and create happy, loving families.

Sara Johal, head of service at One Adoption West Yorkshire said:

“We already have lots of same sex couples and single LGBT adopters, but we understand that many people still think they would not be able to adopt because of their sexuality – which is simply not true. We know that same sex couples can be excellent parents and have so much to offer children who are waiting for their forever family.

“Here in West Yorkshire we have about 180 children who have a plan for adoption and are looking for people who can offer them a loving, stable and permanent home. “

Suzie Grove, head of agency at One Adoption North and Humber said:

“There is no such thing as a typical adopter, we welcome applications from people of any sexuality, race or religion – you don’t have to be married or have a partner either, we have lots of excellent single adopters. What matters is that you can offer love and guidance and be an advocate for a child who may have not had the greatest start in life."
